Ming Zheng Ju

In larger municipalities the Chinese government has decided that Chinese persons who wish to marry foreign persons will be married at this government agency.  This agency is one level above the Hu Kou level and usually a little more organized than the Hu Kou.

The ceremony mainly consists of you and your significant other signing your name and putting a fingerprint on a piece of paper.  When they hand you each a red book with your pictures and information in it, you are then married.  It's quick and if you are not careful you'll miss it.

My wife stood up and said "Let's go."  I asked her if we were done as in married and she indicated yes.  At that point I sat her down, we exchanged rings and had the woman who gave us the paperwork take some pictures.  You should probably take some pictures to give to the Visa interviewer when your spouse/fiancée goes to Guangzhou for the visa.
